Bleeding Out: The Consequence of Disconnect
Objective: Using the elements of typography, created a poster series advertising a fictional event for three modern poets. The designs were intended to visually represent each poets unique differences while maintaining a theme between them.
The poets Orchid Tierney, Heid E. Edrich, and Ahmed Hussain use their voices to highlight the consequence of disconnect.
Research:
Read the poets' work and noted the heart of their writings. Additionally, studied their backgrounds and perspectives.
Composition And Process
Defined the system to be used within the posters through a series of quick sketching. Experimented with different visual methods of disconnect that spoke to each poet.
Physical Type Experimentation
Rule-Based Digital Experimentation:
Theme:
The visual theme is bleeding out. Each poster executes it in a unique way while speaking to each poet's perspective. The metaphor unionizes the poster series.

Orchid Tierney:
Overlapping and cut-off text from her poem "All Our Names are Kin: a Field Guide to Future Flora" create the background. The poem uses sensory words, which communicates her theme of nature well. The cut lines and bleeding red represent the disconnect from the Earth.
Heid E. Edrich:
A faded version of Edrich's "True Myth" create the background. It discusses her heritage, which fades back to represent her unique idea of disconnect. The letters of heritage are fading and scattered, utilizing the same system.
Hussain Ahmed:
The background consists of lines from his poem "Exodus." The text is warped to create an explosion of type. Words and lines are scattered across the poster, separated from themselves like humanity's disconnect with itself and its consequence.
